Glue between the generations

Photos are personal, emotional art that is the glue between the generations.
Sara Frances, Denver photographer
I read that quote last week and completely agree. When you see a portrait of a great-great grandparent or other long gone relative, there is an instant connection. You study their eyes, their facial features, and wonder what they were thinking, their philosophies, dreams, beliefs. You feel tied to your roots by having that image.
My husband has been following a blog posted by a Canadian saddle maker. The blogger's grandfather and great-grandfather were also saddlemakers. He posted pictures, taken circa 1902, of saddles built by his great-grandfather, along with pictures of his harness and leather goods store. His great-grandfather was so proud of his handmade saddles that he had taken several of them to a photography studio to have portraits made of them. What a legacy left to his great grandson! To see the fine detail and craftsmanship and pride of ownership...a photographic inspiration from more than a century ago!
Last week I was visiting with a groom-to-be who explained the reason they were cutting corners in other areas of their wedding plans, in order to book me as their wedding day photographer. He said that at a recent baby christening the only pictures taken had been by family and friends--and that none were of the quality to display or share. He reasoned that that was a big moment in the baby's life, but the pictures were sub-standard. He and his bride-to-be didn't want that regret looming over them in years to come when they looked at their wedding portraits.
I have been a professional photographer for nearly twenty years and have devoted myself to being trained and skilled in lighting, equipment, flattering posing (for individuals and groups) and for the myriad of situations that arise during a wedding or event. When I photograph a wedding, I am thinking not only of the bride and groom and their day, but also of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will treasure those pictures-- for the next 100 years. It is a humbling honor, and a tremendous responsibility.

Weddings, weddings, weddings!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting with several couples about their weddings...thank you to Amber and Thomas for confirming me as the photographer for their May 9th wedding.

Congratulations to Amy and Ryan on your February 16th wedding! It was a pleasure and an honor photographing you and your families. I've included a few favorite images (above) to share. I especially like the third one with them in the car...despite the rain and dreary weather, they are all smiles-happy newlyweds!

Welcome!

Hello! My name is Edye, owner/photographer of Wright Focus. Thank you for taking the time to visit this blog. For those of you interested in my photography, this will serve as a place for you to get to know me a little better. Also, I will be posting helpful ideas and things to consider as you plan your wedding day.

I have been married for nearly 25 years to my best friend, Jerry. He is a performance horse trainer(http://www.jerrywrighthorses.com/) and custom saddle maker. We have a beautiful daughter, Jordan, now in her third year at Wichita State University, with plans to go to law school. She is a talented artist and photographer in her own right.

We share our lives with an assortment of dogs, horses and yes, even cats, that we consider to be part of our family. Cali, a shepherd mix, is also a certified therapy dog. I had the pleasure of taking her to visit the patients at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice yesterday...you can't help but smile when you pet a dog.

Since you have looked around the website, you have seen that I photograph a lot of horses and horse shows. I started riding and showing horses when I was six years old, and have ever since. When time allows, I enjoy giving riding lessons, particularly to beginners. It is such a memorable moment when the horse and rider start working together as a team.

With Valentine's Day this month, many couples will become engaged...congratulations! What an exciting time in your life! For you guys still considering "popping the question", just a quick word of advice-choose a pretty place for the proposal. She will be telling the story of how and where you proposed to all of her friends and family, and you don't want her to preface it with something like: "We were in line at the bank drive through...". I have photographed many couples at their proposal location, and a lake, fountain, trees, gazebo or any picturesque, scenic area will score big points with your bride-to-be!

On a side note: if you would be interested in having your proposal secretly photographed, give me a call-it would be an honor, and a WHOLE LOT of FUN!
